I guess my biggest thing is just that the fast-paced nature of it doesn't always work for real character development and emotional stakes. This class outsider status has been present as a theme before, but contrasting it with a character who is a union organizer gives it some more interesting stakes. In season 4, I was less excited about the mafia, the portrayal of which was also a bit one-dimensional, and more excited about the labor-management subplot that sees the Peaky Blinders taking stock of the fact that the Shelby family, at least, has become part of the bourgeoisie (if a part that will never be fully accepted into British high society). Season 4 was a bit of a recovery for me, after a season 3 where the main drama seemed low stakes and some of the new characters, white Russian aristocrats, seemed one-dimensional. The last season left a lot of questions to be answered and for me it wasn't a satisfying finale.

I still gave the highest rating since I really admire the early seasons, however once they wrap up the story completely with the upcoming movie that's when I will make the final decision on the score. These two final seasons however although still good for me weren't at the same level as the previous. Of course it goes without mention that all the entire cast does a fantastic job, the set and custom design, the cinematography and the insanely cool slow motion shots all contribute to make this even greater. The grey characters, specially Thomas Shelby drive the entire show, even when he makes highly questionable moral decisions you can still empathize with him, given his past and motivations, the way they balance his morality is for the most part of the show really well done.

For the most part the way this sub-plots would come together and get resolved during the season was the best part.Īlthough this is of course a dramatized and fictionalized version of infamous British gangsters, the series is able to remain realistic in a way and there are several moments (including in one of the season's finale, no spoilers) where things clearly didn't go how the protagonist expected, and that gets the audience always on their toes. This show puts the gangster genre on another level, very early on there's a lot that made this an engaging series, first the plot was brilliantly made, the classic approach of having many sub-plots going on all at the same time, and that makes you constantly wonder how exactly will Thomas and his family deal with the most tough and insane situations. I didn't follow it from the start I caught it around the 4th season, but it was undeniable that I was highly hooked on the plot, characters, set and cinematography from the start. Fuck this season and everyone associated with it.This series gained more popularity as years went by.

Another fucking mystery left unsolved by the people who could’ve written it any time they wanted. Hell we don’t even know who killed aberamah. What happened to Jimmy McCavern who killed aberamah’s son? He just disappears. They build up the fascists as the villains in season 5 only for nothing to ever be done about them or hardly even with them. Finn, who’s been there since season 1 episode 1. On that note, Finn gets needlessly isolated and told to leave by a character we’ve known for all one and half episodes. Another cruel, senseless, nihilistic decision by the writers. Tommy needlessly alienates his legitimate son through Grace. Tommy needlessly alienated Lizzie in the most cruel way imaginable and for what? The fascists get exactly what they want anyway? No catharsis Why was he seeing grace all throughout season 4 and 5 but then 6 acts like she never existed? Never explained. If tommy doesn’t really have tuberculoma, then why the fuck was he having seizures? Never explained. So many things this season made no fucking sense.
